Long time no see, no I haven’t abandoned you I just didn’t have enough hands to carry my laptop as well as a toddler, a pram, a backpack, a handbag and 3 suitcases 3500 miles away to sunny Virginia. It’s been a wild 3(?) weeks. I don’t even know what day it is.
Firstly, I’d like to apologise for the formatting of this post, I am writing and publishing via my iPad which has a mind of its own.
Secondly, where the hell you been loca? Well gentle readers, I’ve been to Walmart, Target, The cheesecake factory, Mission BBQ and several other American delicacies. It’s been crazy, I’ve done more steps in 3 weeks then I have all year (slight exaggeration but not by much). A lot of steps for a country that drives everywhere but the stores are massive. In my local Walmart we could easily fit about 5 big Tesco’s in there, and I mean the BIG Tesco like Tesco Extras.
I have driven too, I’m still reaching for the gear stick with my left hand but I am getting there, slowly. I even drove on the highway which is the same amount of times I’ve ever driven on the M6…once. The rules of the road do terrify me a little, it’s a bit of a free for all to be honest, just accelerate and hope for the best.
Thirdly, Amazon do OVERNIGHT deliveries… that’s crazy. I wake up and my stuff is sat on my porch waiting for me, that’s absolutely amazing. No waiting around all day tracking the van being 9 stops away, I wake up and Your packaged has been delivered.

As for the little one, he’s enjoying every second of it. He loves the leaves which we cannot keep on top of, they just reappear as quick as you can rake them. He screams “tractor” at every large vehicle and he adores the school buses. He did get quite attached to the neighbours Halloween decorations, calling the spider “Baba”, so we had to walk past their house everyday so he could say hello. We told the neighbour about this and they knocked on the door one afternoon to gift him their spare spider decoration so now we have Baba the spider permanently up in our family room. I may add a Christmas hat to him, keep him up to date with the seasons.
I was quite proud of myself today, I was invited to the beach by one of the mums in a group I’ve been added to. I’ve been anxious to message anyone so to get the invite it really made my day. I drove all by myself (well the little one was singing in the back seat) and it’s probably the best I’ve ever drove. I was calm, not panicking at all. I’ve been worried I’d feel quite isolated here, I struggle making friends but I know I have to push myself, not just for me, but for my son as well. He deserves to go out and explore, make friends and develop his social skills (not like he needs it, he never stops yapping anyway).
Our shipping should arrive next week so I’ll have my computer back to write regular posts. Thanks for sticking around
Love Alex 😊
